Text

My dear Mr. Irvine:

I want to apologize to you for not answering before this your letter of last December. I have been on the go night and day for quite awhile now, and I have been compelled to lay aside many things that I wanted to do but which I was prevented from doing. This applies especially to my correspondence, which necessarily has been badly neglected.

I told the President about the contents of your letter, and he was deeply touched by your solicitude. He asked me to send you his love - which I have much pleasure in doing.

I see our good friend, Senator Chamberlain, occasionally. He is a very loveable man, and I can well see why you are so fond of him.

With warm personal regards, believe me,

Cary T. Grayson
