Text

My dear Dr. Grayson

Here is some information which you may see fit to place before the President.

I had a very confidential talk with Senator McNary of Oregon while he was here. I am sure he told me exactly what he thinks. He said the treaty reservations could pass the Senate, that they were dictated by the mild reservationists, and that both democrats and mild reservationists believe they would be accepted abroad. He said a few minor changes might be made.

If possible I think it would be a good thing for the President to call McNary in, and try to reach an understanding with him, and the other mild reservationists. I think McNary is a perfectly square man.

I have a sweet rememberance of the President and you and the great meeting in Portland. You may well guess how anxiously men like myself are hoping for the President’s recovery.

With a heartful of good wishes, I am,

Sincerely,

BF Irvine
