Text
Dear George
Many thanks for your letter of October 3rd. The President’s condition was brought about as a result of overwork. He is suffering from nervous exhaustion. What he has done in the past ten months, not to mention before that also, has been almost beyond superhuman endurance. I was afraid the trip to the Coast and back would be too much for him. He has been very sick and is now, but he has made some improvement the past three or four days. It is a terribly hard pull but I am hopeful.
It helps a lot to know that good friends like you are pulling for him. If you come to Washington at any time, I hope you will let me know.
With warm regards, believe me,
Your sincere friend,
Cary T. Grayson
