My dear Admiral

I am enclosing you the report of the great Democratic rally held in Philadelphia on the 24th. I know that it will be not only of interest to the President but of interest to you. Every time the President’s name was mentioned the audience rose to their feet in wild applause. The demonstrations in support of every mention of the President’s fight for a League of Nations and for the obtaining of a peace based upon his fourteen points were wonderful. My support of the President’s stand with regard to Fiume received the same unanimous and spontaneous applause.

Mr. Tumulty made a brief, eloquent and happy speech. He resisted the invitations until the resistence would seem stubbornness. He was naturally very guarded in his remarks, but paid the highest personal tribute to the life and character of the President that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. The reading of the President’s telegram with regard to secret treaties brought the audience to their feet in tremendous and prolonged applause. Mr. Palmer made one of the most eloquent and unanswerable speeches that I have ever heard. I do not desire to burden the President with these matters, but I know that when he has leizure or desires a diversion that he would probably be interested in knowing that the small but loud opposition that once existed is rapidly being silenced by the overwhelming voice of the American people. We are all so happy that you are with the President and that he has been able to stand up under the terrific strain. Jos has told me what a wonderful aid you have been on the other side. Kindly extend to the President my sincere regards, and to Mrs. Wilson my compliments. With best wishes to you and expressions of my highest esteem, I am,

Very sincerely,

Key Pittman
