Text

My darling Trudie,

I have been very homesick for you to-day, and I have wished for you and Gordon. If it were not for the fact that I am kept busy all the time, I would be in a terrible fix—for, at times, I get lonesome and a longing for a sight of you—my dearest one—and I miss dear little Gordon. I do hope you are getting along all right and are taking good care of your precious self —Please do—

I attended a most elaborate luncheon at the French Senate to-day which was given to the President. It was a large affair—numbering about two hundred and fifty. The French all say it that the President’s speech to-day was the best of all he has delivered in France. I am very suspicious about our French friends. The rank and file of the people are all right, but watch the politicians—and those that are “higher up.” They are for bleeding Americans for all they can get.

To-night, I attended the French Opera and saw Romeo and Juliet. I went as the guest of Mr & Mrs. Howland—Mr. Howland is an old friend of Mr. Ross’—They are very nice and have been fine to me on account of Mr. Ross.

This is the first real cold day we have had since our arrival in Paris. I wish for that heavy over-coat ordered from Tautz & sons;—lost by our highly inefficient Embassy and army officers now connected with the Peace Commission—

I miss you—but love you more & more as the days roll by and I shall be very happy when we are together again—may that meeting be soon—

Your truly devoted
