Text

Sunday night.

Milan - Italy -

Sweetheart

Of all the crowds the one here surpasses. The most superb, spontaneous and overwhelming ovation ever given any one, is the universal opinion of all present.

We stayed in the Palace next to the Cathedral which Miss Edith pointed out where you had to be blindfolded, or shut your eyes in order to walk down on account of dizziness—

I wish with all my heart that you were here to-night, my love.

After the dinner, we attended the opera. Think of a good old Presbyterian going to the opera Sunday night. But, the program had been all arranged especially for the President and most of the players or actors had come from a distance; so he did not wish to be discourteous so he went—

We are now off for Paris, and I shall be glad to get back to a stationary place, as we have been on the go since the 24th of December. We are all showing the effects of so much travel but it is remarkable how well we have held up.

Please pardon pencil but it is the best I can do aboard the train. When I get back to Paris I am going to write you a real letter, these lines are just little hurried words to let you know that my thoughts and heart are always with you—Love to our dear little Gordon—and a heartfull for the dearest little mother in all the world—Good-night—

Your always and ever devoted
