Text
I find that my rank is most acceptable over here. Everything is according to rank over here. I am beginning to know some fine French Officers and numerous Americans—Incidentally—prices here are sky high—Food especially—The simplest dinner costs ten dollars.
Jewelry and clothes about twice as expensive as in the United States. So far, I have bought nothing.
Apples are really selling for one dollar each and the flavor is poor at that. Oh! for a basket of all those you gave away?
I see a lot of trés joli girls over here—but none begin to appeal to me in looks or otherwise as my adorable and lovely little Trudie. You are not only the finest but the most precious of all—I love you with all my heart to-night and all time—
