My dear Mr. Clarke
I want to thank you very warmly in the President’s behalf for your kind letter of September 27th. I know the President will be deeply touched by your thoughtfulness. While it is not feasible for the President to leave Washington at this time, I shall be very glad to keep in mind your generous offer. May I not assure you that we appreciate most heartily your friendly interest as well as your good wishes?
Sincerely yours,
