My dear Admiral Grayson

I told Mr. McAdoo today that I knew of no better place, in my humble opinion, than my little farm at Mt. Kisco for the President to rest when he is in condition to travel, and I asked him to place our house there at the disposition of the President in case you thought well to recommend it.

The house is a large stone house, and amply provided with heating, so in case of cold weather the President would be perfectly comfortable. There are four hundred acres and part of that are hemlock woods. The altitude is eight hundred feet, high enough to give good air, but still no great altitude.

The water is fine and we have cows and chickens and vegetables on the place. But especially, it is absolutely quiet.

Secretary Glass has been there and will tell you all about it, and will, I think, agree with me that it is just the place for the President to rest. Although it is only an hour from New York by train and an hour and a half by motor, it could not be more quiet or different if it were in the Adirondacks or any other remote and inaccessible place.

The trouble in my arm and shoulder developed into a rather painful neuritis, which I am just managing to overcome. I am leaving for White Sulphur for a week’s rest, in which time I hope nto banish it altogether.

You have only to let me know in case Mt. Kisco seems to be a good place for the President, and I will be glad to have things made ready for his reception.

With cordial regards,

Very sincerly yours,

Eugene Meyer Jr
