My dear Admiral
As you must know I am anxious to show my sincere respect for the memory of the great man, with whom I was so long and intimately associated, by attending his funeral; but, in view of the unfortunate way in which our relations were severed, I am uncertain as to whether my presence would be agreeable to Mrs. Wilson.
Laboring under this embarassment and wishing to save Mrs. Wilson from every annoyance when she is bearing so great a burden of grief, I am writing you to advise me frankly what course I should pursue. I will be grateful for your honest opinion in this matter.
Very sincerely yours,
ROBERT LANSING
