My Dear Doctor

Will you please allow to me to suggest to you: That a properly arranged Hammock is much superior to a bed on which to rest. I know by experience that a properly arranged one has many points to its advantage. It ought to be about 18 inches from the floor and something soft put under it, in case the ropes which hold it up should give way. There is no danger whatever in case one is fixed by a thoughtful person with a little skill. I do sincerely hope you will give our Dear President the great benefit of a well arranged Hammock which can be swung gently or He can swing himself by means of a string fasted to some object.

The Indians had Hammocks, Columbus states in his voyage.

I am yours most Respectfully

John B. Huffmann
