Our Dear Mr. President
Kindly permit us to present you herewith a photograph of our only son whom we have named in honor of you, our great servant whose acts at home and abroad we ardantly admire. You have had our most humble but welcome support in both of your presidential campaigns as well as your administration. We are longing for the honor and pleasure of gripping in friendship the hand that has guided us so faithfully through the past few years.
The fact that you have been in poor health for the past few days gives us some alarm, but earnestly hope and pray for your early recovery.
Probably you do not realize how much personal interest we have in you and your personal life since we have given your name to our greatest earthly treasure, speaking and hearing it several hundred times daily.
Because we realized your burden, we have postponed the writing of this humble note till our babe is nearly 15 months old, but at this time we feel that possibly you could spare a few minutes without serious inconvenience, to read these lines written by the hands and from the hearts of true Americans. Would it be a burden to you, or asking too great returns, to ask you to pen a few lines in your own hand to our son or us, merely for the honor of having in our home a letter written by you?
Yours very sincerely,
Mr. & Mrs. Jno. L. Goss.
