WEDNESDAY, During the entire morning and until 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon the train ran over the Union Pacific Railroad through the mountains, with only halts for the changing of engines. The President remained in his stateroom for a good part of the day endeavoring to get some rest. He was suffering a great deal and his nervous condition was apparent. At Cheyenne the party was greeted by a reception committee, headed by Governor(insert name) of Wyoming, and an escort had been provided, made up of the entire 15th Cavalry, which was stationed at Fort D. A. Russell, just outside of the city limits. The meeting in Cheyenne was held in the local theatre, and an orchestra made up entirely of women played a number of patriotic airs before the President spoke. The President’s address followed closely the lines of his previous day’s talk. After the meeting ended the President was taken for a ride out through the grounds of Fort Russell and was shown the camp where the alien enemies had been interned during the war. Cheyenne was left at 7:00 o’clock that night and a quick run was made to Denver, which was reached at 11:00 o’clock. Despite the lateness of the hour a large crowd was in the streets waiting to cheer the President on his arrival.
