MONDAY.

The President spent the morning in his study, writing and preparing for the meeting of the Supreme War Council, at 2:30 in the afternoon. The conference, at this time, began its discussion of dividing its work into committees and determining the representation thereon of the various nations. I noticed that the British and French had called in all their technical advisors. Baruch, Hurley, Hoover and McCormick were with me in the outer room so I went into the conference room and asked the President whether he did not want his technical advisors present. He replied that he did, so all of them went into the meeting. The meeting was prolonged and when Mrs. Wilson returned for the President, he was not ready to leave, so I went for a motor ride with her. After the meeting, I saw Baruch and asked him how things had progressed. He said that the President was complete master of the whole performance and that he entirely dominated the meeting. That night we had a formal dinner at the Murat Palace, the first the President had given since his coming to France. As guests, he had all the technical advisors and members of the Mission.
