Text

Monday Afternoon

My Dear President

Have received your letter of the twelfth today and was sadly disappointed to hear that nothing can be done to keep my sweetheart from going to France.

I might of known all that, because he is not the only one, and, I presume the only one thing left for me to do is, hope and pray that the war be ended soon and he come back to me.

I certainly am proud of him and I know he is doing the right thing, but I do hope they never will have to fight, and that we may have peace before long.

All this is just breaking my heart, but I suppose it is all for the best.

President Wilson I cannot express myself well enough to tell you that I appreciate very much your kindness in considering my letter and may God Bless you. I remain again,
A Heartbroken Little Girl.
