My dear Mr. Lansing

I beg to present a translation of a Petition to the President of the United States, the original of which is handsomely engrossed in Arabic and was presented to Dr. Samuel M. Zwemer, the great Apostle to the Moslems, when he was in Peking recently, by the Imam of the leading Mosque in the name of all the Professors.

Dr. Robert E. Speer is interested in the matter and would have gone to Washington with me had his engagements permitted, but he has not a single day available until after November 24th.

It seems to me that the address may have a bearing upon the proper understanding of the Chinese, showing their strong cooperation with the Allies, and coming from such eminent men I believe it should be presented to the President as speedily as possible to have its fullest influence in connection with the War.

May I send the address to you for delivery to the President, for such action or response as is decided proper? I would gladly take it to you in person were it not for pressure of other matters, one of which, for the moment, is selling Liberty Bonds.

Faithfully yours,
E. E. Olcott

Honorable Robert Lansing,
Secretary of State,
Washington, D. C.

Enclosure.
