Text

My dear Baker

Private.

I think it would be of the greatest service so far as the spirit of things is concerned if you would visit Italy and get in touch, if even for a very brief time indeed, with the military people there. It would gratify them deeply and would show our interest in the best way in which we can show it for the present.

Faithfully and cordially yours,
Woodrow Wilson

Hon. Newton D. Baker,
Secretary of War.
