Text

Dear Mr. President

I think in the midst of your innumerable cares and burdens, you may be interested to know how effective your words have been that you have spoken or written for the Bible. I met the other day the Rev. Dr. Bertrand M. Tipple of the Methodist Episcopal Mission in Rome, and one of the first things he said to me was, "you have no idea of the influence that President Wilson's words on the Bible have had throughout Italy and France." Since then he has written a letter from which I quote,"President Wilson's words have made a deep impression on the millions in the Latin world in Southern Europe where the general influence has been against the ordinary man opening the Bible and reading it for himself. President Wilson's word for the Bible has literally entered not only millions of homes but was scattered through the trenches, from the North Sea to the Adriatic, and from the Baltic to the Dardanelles."I have no doubt you are having many words of encouragement but you cannot have too many in these days. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

With sincere regards, I am,

Very truly yours,
William I. Haven
Corresponding Secretary.
