Text

Personal and confidential.

My dear Mr. President

I beg to enclose herewith notes of a conversation which took place between Mr. Ford and certain members of a luncheon party during December, 1917. This report is said correctly to represent Mr. Ford's attitude towards the war.

I thought that you would be interested in reading this matter and that perhaps, should an opportunity be presented, you might speak to Mr. Ford with a view to clearing up certain misapprehensions under which he seems to labor regarding the reasons for our entry into the war.

Faithfully yours,
Robert Lansing.

Enclosure.

The President,
The White House.
