Text

My dear Mr. Kent:

I so much respect your judgment that when I find myself differing from you, I question my own conclusion, but I must say to you very frankly that I have no confidence whatever in Victor Berger. His recent actions and utterances have convinced me that he is not to be trusted as in any sense a friend of the Government and I do not think that it would be wise or serve any useful purpose for me to see him personally.
Not all the Socialists of the country by a great deal are of his sort or follow his counsel. Indeed, I have seen very many evidences of late that the bulk of the Socialists in this country have genuine American feeling and in no sense represent the revolutionary temper such as Mr. Berger has shown.

Cordially and faithfully yours,
Woodrow Wilson

Hon. William Kent,
U. S. Tariff Commission.
