Text

Dear Mr. President

Mr. Justice Brandeis has spent two evenings talking with me about the general labor situation throughout the country and feels very strongly that, as our munitions contracting business, both on our own account and that of the Allies, increases in volume, very special arrangements will have to be made to prevent the labor conditions from being lost sight of in the agitation for hurried quantity production. Justice Brandeis, as you may know, has determined to remain in Washington over the summer so as to be available for any help he can give to any of us who are dealing with labor problems. He has kept himself pretty well informed of the workings of the advisory committees of the Council of National Defense.
I am writing this note merely to suggest that, if you want a disinterested view of the whole situation from a man who is thinking hard and seeing it all from the outside, I feel very sure that the Justice would be glad to come to you at any time you cared to see him.The President

Respectfully yours,
Newton D. Baker
