Text
My dear Mr. Gompers
I am ashamed to say that the truth is that amidst the pressure of other things I have not been able to give the attention it deserves to the question of voluntary supplemental aid to the dependents of men in the military and naval forces, but my general idea is that it would be wise to concentrate everything of this sort in a very few channels and my suggestion would be that you confer with Miss Boardman as to the practicability of affiliating the efforts you are generously thinking of making in this matter with the work of the Red Cross. I am sure she would be able to make some very valuable and practical suggestions.
Cordially and sincerely yours,
Mr. Samuel Gompers,
American Federation of Labor,
Washington, D. C.
