My darling Girlie

I must indulge myself in a short message of love from my own pen (this little machine seems to have taken the place since my hand grew unmanageable!). I cannot put into words what my heart contains about you and dear Frank; but somehow it is a comfort to at least speak to you across the sea. Our thoughts follow you with a yearning which goes to the very roots of our hearts. But they are happy thoughts, because you are happy. We know only what the cable despatches in the papers have told us about your safe arrival, but they tell us that you are well and show us that it is evident to everybody that you are radiating happiness just as you did before you left, bless your heart! We are content. I know how fine it will be to be with the Pages. They are of your own taste and will know instinctively what you will wish and most enjoy. The wedding has left the most interesting impressions here and the happiest memories on the part of everybody who saw it or heard about from those who did. It is so delightful that the whole country should get just the right impression of it and of you. It helps establish a standard in girls and their sweethearts! Your dear mother is woynderful. She has spoken no word since you left but of happiness and content. I can see in the depths of yearning that she cannot alwayrs hide in her eyes what lack her mother's heart feels, but she loves you more than she loves herself and wishes for nothing but your happiness. It is lovely to see her! For the rest of us there is of course the constant pain of the empty place; but we love you, too, with all that is best in us, and want everything to be as it is. For with one accord, and with a common enthusiasm we love Frank, too, and delight to think of him as our son and brother and everything that is dear and sacred.
God bless you both. This is just a message of love which I could not deny myself. We are all well. No one else knows I am writing.

You devoted
Father
