My darling

The box with the pink dress and the “graduating present” went yesterday. The emeralds will be very becoming to you, but I am sorry they do not “go” very well with the new dress. They will be lovely with the little green dress and the white. Perhaps you had better keep the dress in its box and its tissue papers until you are ready to wear it.Margaret has got us so confused about your commencement programme, telling us that we were all wrong about it, that I beg you will send us a schedule at once and tell me again just when you want me to be there. Margaret thinks class day is Monday morning and that I should have to go over Sunday night. She goes still earlier, but I want to get there just in time for class day. We are to stay at the Reids of course, & I must write as soon as possible when she is to expect us.
What did you decide about the dance? Margaret is going; George Henderson is making out her card.
It is all settled that your father goes abroad; he has taken passage on the 20th of June for Glasgow and will go straight to the lakes. And we go the same day to Lyme. We are to stay at Miss Griswolds, the dear old place where all the artists live. I think it will be great fun to be among them. You know her place backs up to the little river, and we are going to take the canoe. I think we ought to have a jolly summer. The adored Mr. DuMond teaches the class; and, after you have had a long rest, you can join it if you want.
But it is bed-time and I must stop. We have had visitors for dinner and all day. With a heart full of love & renewed congratulations on account of the P.B.K. (my excitement over it is not in the least abated yet!) I am, darling,

Your devoted
Mother.
