You will, I hope, receive from me today the letter which I wrote the three of you yesterday. Here is an additional note to thank the “two of you” for the most useful box of twine & scissors which haps just arrived. It is really even more useful than you will probably guess, for I can seldom find a bit of twine in my room—and as for scissors I have to go on a still hunt—(as much of an undertaking as seeking out partridges) every time I want a pair. I used to have a pair, but they could be any where, from the top shelf of the closet to the inside of an old pair of shoes into which they had dropped—and finally they disappeared altogether, so your present is as useful as it is conven handsome—and I thank you both with dear love for it.
And tell dear little Nellie that I have already been reading with delight in her books—they are a great comfort.
And here is a special request of Margaret; sometime when you are passing by the building where my rooms are will you ring the bell at the street door and tell any of Peter's family who may answer that you want to get into my rooms? Then will you open the two parcels that may be on my desk?—I know there will be at least one there—and send me any cards or notes which may be enclosed together with a description of the article in which it is contained? It occurs to me that there may be a present or two there—and as it will be many weeks before I can see it, I should like to make some acknowledgment & not seem so rude.
With renewed messages of Christmas greetings & love for each of you three girls, Margaret, Jessie, & Nellie,
